ATA and AAA Washington/Inland to Demo Highway Safety Measures for Summer Travel
'Share the Road' Program Visits Seattle to Promote Safe Highway Travel in Washington Though Up to 240,000 Vehicles Travel I-5 Through Seattle Daily, Most Automobile Drivers Are Never Taught What They Can Do to Avoid Initiating an Accident With a Tractor-Trailer Who: Professional truck drivers, the American Trucking Associations (ATA), AAA Washington/Inland, the Puget Sound Regional Council, the Washington State Patrol, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Washington Trucking Association, the Port of Seattle, the Port of Tacoma, the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, Washington State Department of Transportation, the Regional Freight Mobility Roundtable, and The Boeing Company. What: A demonstration of highway safety measures will be conducted for local news media, including "ride-alongs" in tractor- trailers, as part of the national Share the Road tour visiting Seattle, Washington. When: Thursday, July 15th, 10:00 AM Where: Qwest Field, North Lot, Seattle, WA (see driving directions below.) Summary: Professional truck drivers with millions of miles of accident- free driving, ATA, AAA Washington/Inland, and state and local agencies will demonstrate safe driving measures key to reducing crashes on Washington highways. The demonstration will include truck ride-alongs for news reporters and photographers, and tips on blind spots, safe-merging techniques, and safe stopping and following distances. This highway safety program is critical for Washington drivers because: * 35% of all truck-involved highway fatalities occur in a truck's blind spots* * Most drivers haven't received driver education on how to share the road safely with trucks * Watching this demonstration will help reduce accidents Directions: The North Lot at Qwest Field is located on the corner of 2nd and King.
