Jaguar North America Sponsors the Jaguar F1 Team in Schools Design Challenge in the US

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 21 -- Jaguar North America announces its sponsorship of the Jaguar F1 Team in Schools CAD/CAM Design Challenge with Denford, Pitsco, and BAE Systems, in cooperation with Technology Student Association (TSA), UGS-PLM Solutions (an EDS company) and Pathrace. Over 20 middle and high school teams will participate in the competitive event that takes place during TSA's national conference in Nashville, TN from June 20-24. Students designed, built and will race Formula One racecars in this competition. The event is designed to promote engineering as a desirable career option for students.

"This is an exciting educational partnership," comments CJ O'Donnell, executive vice president of Marketing and Sales for Jaguar North America. "The Jaguar F1 Team in Schools Design Challenge is an ideal venue for students to explore the world of automotive design and engineering which may potentially lead to future careers in the industry."

The Jaguar F1 Team in Schools program began in the United Kingdom, with support from Jaguar Cars Limited. The program has also been successful in South Africa, Australia and Asia, and now comes to the United States to promote the engineering discipline.

The TSA students work with CAD/CAM software to construct their F1 model racecars. Students create a 3-D prototype as they work through designing, manufacturing, assembling, testing and racing of their models. Judging is based upon safety, aerodynamics, engineering, aesthetics, quality and manufacturing, race times, and presentation. Students must also create a portfolio and give an oral presentation to a panel of judges.
