Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production - June 11, 2004

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 11 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 327,339 units, up 10.1 percent from the 297,281 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 7,677,153 vehicles, down 1.9 percent from like-2003's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 247,018 vehicles this week, up 21.4 percent from the 203,442 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2004 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 5,720,398 units, down 0.5 percent compared to the 5,750,750 vehicles built in like-2003.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 50,596, a decrease of 18.1 percent from the 61,759 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,252,932 units, down 1.2 percent compared to the 1,267,586 vehicles produced in like-2003.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 32.3 percent; Ford Motor Co., 23.4 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.0 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.6 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 5.5 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.2 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.5 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.0 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.2 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
