ARCA All Access At MIS

ARCA RE/MAX SERIES FANS GET ALL ACCESS AT MIS

TOLEDO OH (6-7-04) The Saturday afternoon, June 19 ARCA RE/MAX Series Flagstar 200 at Michigan Int'l Speedway is turning out to be much more than a superspeedway stock car race, especially for the paying customer.

Fans who purchase tickets for the race will also be provided access to pit road and the ARCA RE/MAX Series garage area for the opportunity to get up close and personal with series teams and drivers.

Soon after the race, fans will be allowed to pour onto the frontstretch and make their way across the track en route to pit road and the garage.

"We've always considered ourselves as ARCA's home superspeedway track, so we're excited that our fans will be offered this unique opportunity following the Flagstar 200," said MIS President Brett Shelton. "The chance to see the drivers, cars and teams up close right after they've been battling door-to-door for 200-miles is certainly unique. The ARCA RE/MAX Series has a great mix of veterans, along with several promising young drivers, and we hope fans will take advantage of this opportunity by attending the Flagstar 200."

While garage/pit access may be commonplace in the short-track world, the same is not necessarily true on superspeedways.

"In many ways this is unprecedented," said ARCA President Ron Drager, who also promotes the nearby Flat Rock Speedway short-track. "It's certainly not a new concept; it's been done at short-tracks for years. But, it is somewhat innovative in terms of superspeedway racing. It gives the fans the opportunity to see a side of big-time stock car racing most never get the chance to see."

ARCA RE/MAX Series racing at MIS is a tradition spanning three decades dating back to 1980 when veteran Joe Ruttman won the inaugural race.

The track, located just an hour away from ARCA's Temperance, Michigan-based home office, is considered by many to be the sanctioning body's hometown superspeedway. And this year's event marks the 225th overall superspeedway appearance of the RE/MAX Series since the inaugural superspeedway run at Daytona in 1964.

Past RE/MAX Series winners at MIS include Michigan natives Ruttman, Tim Steele and Bob Keselowski as well as Jeff Purvis, Kerry Earnhardt, Frank Kimmel, Blaise Alexander and the most recent winner Casey Mears in 2003.

Drivers pre-entered for this year's 200-miler include series veterans Kimmel, Jason Jarrett, Billy Venturini, Todd Bowsher and Mark Gibson as well as rookies Ryan Hemphill, AJ Fike, TJ Bell and Brandon Knupp. Former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville is also entered.

The Flagstar 200 is scheduled to roll off at 1 pm eastern with same-day coverage on SPEED Channel airing at 8 P.M.
