AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Texas Cities Set New Records
HOUSTON--April 9, 2004--Eight Texas cities set new record highs this week, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.The Texas average for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline jumped about two cents to $1.655. San Antonio and Corpus Christi tie for the cheapest price of gasoline this week at $1.640 a gallon. San Antonio also showed one of the biggest increases of more than three cents. Dallas tops the list at $1.672 a gallon, up two cents.
"The current record high prices do not appear to be stopping motorists from hitting the roadways," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "According to the U.S. Department of Energy, demand has been up by approximately four percent for the past month compared to last year."
AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
