A Safer Road to Tomorrow: Drivers, Idle Your Engines

CONCORD, N.H.--Feb. 1, 20042, 2004--If you're travelling New Hampshire's roads this Presidents Day weekend, you're not alone. According to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, more than one million vehicles are expected to pass through tolls in the state. For people eager to reach their getaway destination, this means you'll likely be stuck in traffic at some point during your journey.

And increased traffic on New Hampshire's roadways isn't only a concern on long holiday weekends. According to a recent study by The Road Information Program (TRIP), based in Washington, D.C., the state's highways are one-third more congested than a decade ago. There are 305 miles of congested roads and highway surfaces in New Hampshire, the equivalent of going from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian border 1.5 times.

A Safer Road to Tomorrow, a group comprised of leading public and private safety, transportation, construction, law enforcement and business organizations in New Hampshire, urges travelers this weekend to plan your travel accordingly so that you can enjoy a safe and stress-free ride.
