ATA and AAA Demonstrate Safety Measures for Miami
Drivers
Share the Road Program Visits Miami to Save Lives on Local Highways
Thousands of vehicles travel I-95 through Miami each day. Most automobile
drivers were never taught what they can do to avoid initiating an accident
with a tractor-trailer.
Who: The American Trucking Associations (ATA), professional truck
drivers, AAA Auto Club South, the Florida Department of
Transportation - Office of Motor Carrier Compliance, and the
Florida Trucking Association.
What: A demonstration of highway safety measures will be conducted for
local news media, including "ride-alongs" in tractor-trailers,
as part of the national Share the Road tour visiting Miami, FL.
When: Thursday, January 29th, 10:00 AM
Where: Airport Wal-Mart, 8651 N.W. 13TH Terrace, Miami, FL (see driving

Summary: Professional truck drivers with millions of miles of
accident-free driving, ATA and AAA Auto Club South, will
demonstrate safety measures critical to saving lives on Miami's
highways. The demonstration will include truck ride-alongs for
news reporters and photographers. Safety demonstration will
include tips on blind spots, safe-merging techniques, and
stopping and following distances.
The safety advice is critical for Miami area drivers because:
* 35% of all truck-involved highway fatalities occur in a
truck's blind spots (Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration)
* Most drivers were never taught how to share the road safely
with trucks
* Watching this demonstration will help reduce accidents
Directions: Take I-95 north to SR 836 west. Take 836 west to 87th
Avenue. Stay right at fork and then go left onto NW 12th St.
