Louisville KY Ad Fed Sponsors License Plate Design Competition

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Jan. 1, 20044, 2004--The Advertising Federation of Louisville announced today that it is sponsoring a competition to design a new license plate for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Proceeds from purchases of the new license plate will benefit the Ad Fed's minority scholarship program, to encourage minorities to enter the communications profession.

The competition will be open to any professional in the field of communications who lives in Kentucky. The entry is free, and designers can enter as many as three proposed designs.

All designs will be narrowed to a finalist pool of five by a blue-ribbon panel of judges. The final design will be in the hands of the public via the Louisville Ad Fed's web site.

"We are pleased and excited to announce this license plate design competition," said John McCafferty, president of the Louisville Ad Fed. "Our goals are two-fold: to encourage public participation in the design process for a new license plate for Kentucky, and to enhance awareness of the outstanding design talent within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

"Once we've got a winning design, we hope that all residents of Kentucky will encourage their friends and family members to purchase the new plate - since all proceeds will go to an Ad Fed minority scholarship fund for an outstanding student in the field of communications at a Kentucky college or University."

The Ad Fed is issuing a call for entries on January 12, 2004. Deadline for entries is February 13. Preliminary judging will take place March 1-5, and public judging will take place March 22-31. The winning design will be announced in early April.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky will produce any association license plate, provided that 900 people request to buy the plate within one year.

The Advertising Federation of Louisville, with more than 600 members, represents Louisville's $1 billion advertising industry. The American Advertising Federation has honored the Ad Fed of Louisville as "Club of the Year" in 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2003 - competing with clubs in top-tier markets like Houston, Minnesota, New York and Philadelphia.

The Louisville Ad Fed supports the professional enhancement of all advertising and communications professionals in Metro Louisville through informational, educational, social and community programs.
