2004 DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Edmunds Family Sedan Comparison Test Winner - Honda Accord

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 4, 2004; Edmunds.com today announced the Honda Accord overcame nine strong competitors in the 2004 Family Sedan Comparison Test found at http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/comparison/articles/101056/article.html .

According to the editors of Edmunds.com, the Accord won because of its well-rounded appeal in terms of quality, functionality and value. The Mazda 6 followed closely behind, thanks in large part to its sporty driving demeanor complemented by a generous list of safety and convenience features and an unexpectedly smooth, quiet ride.

For each comparison test, Edmunds.com's editorial staff rigorously tests and compares competing vehicles, then ranks them based on a number of factors including: performance, features, price and the editors' individual personal preferences. While the Honda Accord achieved top placement in the scoring, others took the lead in areas that are of specific interest to consumers.

For example, the Mitsubishi Galant scored highest in performance testing while the Hyundai Sonata impressed for its value. The Volkswagen Passat was noted for having the most features considered critical for a family sedan and was chosen as the personal favorite of the editors, demonstrated by its recent selection as Edmunds.com Editors' Most Wanted Sedan Under $25,000 at http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/mostwanted/2004.

"The competition was fierce, which is great news for consumers," stated Erin Riches, the Road Test Editor for Edmunds.com who served as head writer for this comparison test. "Even the bottom half of the list demonstrated that family cars have a lot to offer consumers today. For example, the redesigned Chevrolet Malibu's V6 engine and well-tuned suspension make for a pleasant driving experience and the new Suzuki Verona has handsome styling and a notable interior."
