Law Enforcement Reminds Michigan Motorists: You Drink & Drive. You Lose

Law enforcement officials throughout the state are continuing a crackdown on drunk drivers this holiday season that will continue through Jan. 4, 2004. More than 500 Michigan law enforcement agencies are participating in rigorous drunk driving enforcement that began Dec. 19, 2003. In addition, officers in 20 counties will use federal traffic safety funds to put overtime patrols on Michigan roadways specifically looking for drunk drivers.

This is the first drunk driving mobilization since the new, tougher drunk driving law took effect on September 30. The new law lowers the blood alcohol limit at which a motorist is considered a drunk driver, and imposes stiffer fines for those caught driving drunk.
