AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gasoline Prices Hold Steady

HOUSTON--Dec. 5, 2003--Gasoline prices remain relatively stable following the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the Weekend Gas Watch by AAA Texas.

Currently, the Texas average for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline is $1.40 -- the same as the pre-Thanksgiving average, but eight cents more than last year's average of $1.32 a gallon. Corpus Christi continues for the twelfth straight week to have the cheapest gas averaging $1.36 a gallon -- up slightly more than a penny. San Antonio, which is the only city on the list that showed a decrease, ties Corpus Christi with an average of $1.36 -- down about a penny. Dallas tops the list at $1.42 a gallon -- up less than a penny.

"As long as production and inventories remain stable, gas prices should remain relatively stable as well for the remainder of the year," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "This price stability comes as members of OPEC have decided not to reduce oil production, at least for now."

AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
