Unmanned Maglev train sets speed record of 560 kph

KOFU Japan; November 18, 2003 Japan Today reported that a magnetically levitated (Maglev) train set a new record speed of 560 kilometers per hour (kph) Monday on an experimental track in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, the train's operator said.

Monday's test run of the unmanned three-car train beat its previous record in April 1999 when a manned Maglev train hit a record speed of 552 kph, according to Central Japan Railway Co (JR Tokai). (Kyodo News)
