Eggs Add Fuel to Winston Cup Organization:

Women Race for Charity at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Eggstra Bonus Linked to Sunday's Ford 400

HOMESTEAD, Fla., Nov. 14 -- It was Angela Skinner, and not her racecar driving husband Mike, who was in Victory Lane today at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, finishing first in "The Great Egg Race," a cook-off that pitted racing wives against each other in a test of speed to raise money for The Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary (WCRWA). Angela, the racing wife who cooked up an omelet in the least amount of time (24.59 seconds), was recognized with a mini-Winston Cup trophy and a $30,000 check, courtesy of the American Egg Board, to the WCRWA, an organization that benefits Winston Cup drivers and crew members who suffer race-related injury as well as children's hospitals and many children's organizations.

"As a member of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary, we're always looking for creative ways to raise funds and 'The Great Egg Race' is a terrific opportunity to do that," says Angela. "This is also a good opportunity to remind people that the American Heart Association's recent guidelines no longer limit the number of egg yolks one can consume and, in fact, say that eggs can be part of a healthy diet. This is good news for racecar drivers. As athletes they eat a lot of eggs, since they are a good source of protein, and that provides energy to help keep them going during the long racing season."

Instead of racecars, the cook-off participants, including Angela Skinner, Debbie Benson, Shana Mayfield and Carla Wallace, with Robin Dallenbach, wife of NASCAR announcer Wally Dallenbach, serving as master of ceremonies, used cook stations, frying pans and spatulas in their attempt to get to the winner's circle. When Robin Dallenbach lowered the checkered flag, the racing wives had to "think fast, think eggs" as they raced against the clock to prepare the "cup-winning" red pepper and green onion omelet in the least amount of time.

In addition to today's donation, the America Egg Board will serve up an "eggstra" bonus of up to $10,000 to the WCRWA if Angela's husband, Mike, places within the top ten at the NASCAR Ford 400 on Sunday.

"We're pleased to donate to an organization like The Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary that helps support racing families in need as well as many children's charities," says Donald J. McNamara, Director of the Egg Nutrition Center. " 'The Great Egg Race' cook-off is also an opportunity to call attention to the role eggs play as a staple of the racing circuit diet."
