Gas Prices Up in Illinois and Northern Indiana, AAA Says

AURORA, Ill., Aug. 13, 2003 -- Gas prices have increased an average of more than 6 cents in Illinois and Northern Indiana during the past month.

According to AAA Chicago's most recent fuel gauge report, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois now averages $1.63 per gallon, which is up 6 cents from this time last month and 17 cents from last year's prices. In northern Indiana, gas prices now average $1.56, which is up 7 cents from last month an up 21 cents from last year's prices.

In Cook County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.70 per gallon, which is up 3 cents from last month.

In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.63 per gallon, 5 cents higher than July prices.

In Kane County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.62 per gallon, 6 cents higher than July prices.

In Lake County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.61 per gallon, 4 cents higher than July prices.

In McHenry County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.63 per gallon, 5 cents higher than July prices.

In Will County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.61 per gallon, 6 cents higher than July prices.

"The higher retail prices are reflective of an increase in crude oil and wholesale gasoline prices that took place a couple of weeks ago," said AAA Chicago spokesperson Steve Nolan.
