ZAP Scooter Deliveries Redefine 'Fast Food'

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Aug. 13, 2003 -- Santa Rosa, California restaurateur Guy Fieri is as used to fresh ideas as he is to fresh ingredients. So, when electric scooter maker ZAP (BULLETIN BOARD: ZAPZ) moved in next door to his new restaurant, the creative juices started flowing.

Fieri is one of the founders of Johnny Garlic's ( http://www.johnnygarlics.com/ ), a chain of restaurants north of the San Francisco bay area that has captured the imagination of Wine Country residents with its unique combination of traditional and creative dining, catering and dessert enticements. His latest creation is Tex Wasabi's in downtown Santa Rosa, a unique new sushi barbecue that opened around the same time that electric vehicle pioneer ZAP was moving its headquarters next door.

ZAP offers many kinds of electronic transportation contraptions, from underwater dive scooters, all the way up to full-sized electric automobiles. But it was the scooters for which Fieri developed a taste.

"ZAP scooters are the cure for the common car," says Fieri. "The potential this creates for deliveries in downtown areas is unheard of. Now I can handle orders within a five-mile radius without getting into a car! Plus, there's not a person that sees our people on scooters that doesn't fall in love with the idea. Deliveries on pollution-free scooters are a great draw for my business, but it also makes good business sense."

Fieri says the scooters save time and money while helping the environment. Parking is a premium downtown, so he can save money on daily basis as well as the time it takes to find a nearby parking spot. He can also save on costs related to hiring drivers and operating automobiles for deliveries. A two-mile delivery costs him about 75 cents in a car versus a penny or two on a scooter.

Fieri has a fleet of three ZAPPY(R) EXTREME electric scooters, a new hi-performance model that tops speeds of 20 MPH. The scooters cost about five cents to charge and can run up to eight miles on a single charge. All ZAP's scooters can plug into a 110-volt household outlet.
