Mitsubishi Motors has issued the following press release:

Less than two years after the start of its Turnaround in Europe, Mitsubishi Motors will continue to proceed with its product renewal offensive, during the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Building up on its new and edgy positioning, the Three-Diamond brand will demonstrate its intentions at the two ends of the spectrum:

In the upper segment, Grandis will be unveiled to the European public. Built off an all-new specific platform, this full size MPV will be launched in Europe during the first half of 2004, bringing very sharp design, fine dynamics and clever flexibility to the market. A cool MPV, it will show that MPVs do not need to be square and dull. A car of choice, instead of a purely rational item on a shopping list.

Looking longer term into the A-segment, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will unveil i, a concept that boasts a compact body without compromising on interior space. Particular emphasis has been placed on assuring crashworthiness.

The lightweight body combines with a powertrain that uses a newly developed 1.0-liter MIVEC engine mated to a continuously variable transmission for outstanding fuel economy. The addition of an "idling stop" function that cuts the engine during idling adds to the performance in terms of fuel economy.

Dynamic lines accentuate the exterior to give i a nimble appearance in proportions made possible by the car’s midship platform.

On the inside, an assortment of elegant materials creates a high-tech yet unimposing interior, reflecting a high sense of Japanese style.

In addition to these – respectively – European and World premieres, Mitsubishi Motors will introduce two members of the C-segment Lancer family:

Lancer Station Wagon: a stylish compact sporty wagon offering high quality, a very balanced handling, high level of equipment and good value for money. All traits highlighted in the purposeful 2.0 liter Sport version with its lowered suspension, 16" wheels, MOMO steering wheel and specific seats.

Lancer Evolution VIII: Mitsubishi Motors hero model, available during the first quarter of 2004 in the Mitsubishi Motors dealer network. It will be the first Lancer Evolution sold fully homologated and with a Manufacturer’s warranty in Europe. A mature and very competent modern classic, Lancer Evolution VIII will take the driving experience to new levels.
