Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production - July 3, 2003

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 3 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 113,512 units, down considerably from the 335,257 cars and trucks built last week due to many manufacturers' summer shutdowns and model year changeovers, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,620,124 vehicles, down 2.5 percent from like-2002's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 56,647 vehicles this week, down 77.3 percent from the 249,276 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2003 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,309,637 units, down 2.5 percent from the 6,468,966 vehicles built in like-2002.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 28,365, a 46.1 percent decrease from the 52,611 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,407,430 units, down 1.7 percent compared to the 1,431,739 vehicles produced in like-2002.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 4.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 52.6 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 21.5 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 10.9 percent; Subaru Automotive Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.0 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 5.0 percent; and other manufacturers, 5.8 percent.
