Audi will dramatically transform the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago this summer with a dazzling illumination inspired by John Malkovich, actor-director-producer and founding member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Using the medium of light, Audi will turn the facade of the Museum into a larger-than-life public work of art. The display is part of the "Audi: Never Follow" program, a landmark cultural initiative conceived and produced by Conde Nast which celebrates the launch of the all-new 2004 Audi A8 L.
A private VIP reception will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 East Chicago Avenue, with the public invited to witness the inaugural illumination at 9:15 PM. Included among the guests will be John Malkovich and many of Chicago's most influential tastemakers. A 2004 Audi A8 L will be on display.
"Audi: Never Follow" was launched in New York on June 9. Chicago is the fourth of five venues in the program, with prior illuminations at Miami's legendary Biltmore Hotel (June 11-17) and Dallas' Meyerson Symphony Center (June 18-24). Following the Chicago display, Audi will transform the Beverly Hills City Hall (August 6-12).
The "Audi: Never Follow" program celebrates the achievements of the "Audi 8," individuals whose accomplishments have broken new ground. In addition to John Malkovich, the "Audi 8" includes singer k.d. lang, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte, architect Daniel Libeskind, fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez, BET founder Robert Johnson, SunMicrosystem's Bill Joy and Madame Lucette de Rugy, producer of the lighting displays, alongside the design team from Casa Magica.
As part of the program, Audi has commissioned a series of portraits of each honoree by noted photographer Peggy Sirota, unveiled in a special insert within the July 2003 editions of 15 Conde Nast, Fairchild and Golf Digest Companies magazines. Striking images of the new Audi A8 L are featured as the centerpiece of this keepsake insert, designed by Audi's advertising agency, McKinney + Silver. The 12-page special section will run in Vogue, Architectural Digest, GQ, Vanity Fair, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, House & Garden, Wired, Lucky, The New Yorker, W, Details, Golf Digest, and Golf for Women.
The Museum of Contemporary Art transformation will be featured in an hour-long network television special about the "Audi: Never Follow" program that will explore the visionary minds of John Malkovich and the rest of the Audi 8, who share the Never Follow philosophy. In addition, the program is featured on a custom-designed web site, www.NeverFollow.com, where users can watch the events unfold across America and discover further information about the "Audi 8" and the 2004 Audi A8 L.
