Michigan School Bus Drivers Compete for State Title

The media are welcome to attend as nearly 40 skilled school bus drivers from around Michigan compete in the 26th annual state School Bus Driving Championship. The contest starts at 11 a.m. in Midland on Wednesday (June 25) at the Best Western Valley Plaza Resort, 5221 Bay City Road, off U.S. 10.

Drivers from the following counties are competing: Ingham, Eaton, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Washtenaw, Monroe, Muskegon, Cass, Berrien, Van Buren, Kent, Ottawa, Kalamazoo, Genesee, Sanilac, Lapeer, Saginaw, Huron and Midland. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Best camera and interview opportunities for the behind-the-wheel portion of the contest are between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reporters can interview local drivers and take a pre- competition ride through the course in a bus before 11. A picnic-style lunch will be available.

The winner competes in the International Championship in Chicago on July 20-21. To reach Valley Plaza Resort, head west on U.S. 10 from I-75 at Bay City and go west 14 miles. Exit right onto Bay City Road. The resort is on the south side of the freeway. The course will be behind the Great Hall.
