Honda U.S. Selects Teradyne's GDS2200 as Next Generation Service Diagnostics Hardware

MANCHESTER, England--April 24, 2003--Honda Motor Company, Ltd. has chosen Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions as its primary diagnostic hardware supplier as part of its next generation diagnostic solutions. Teradyne's GDS2200 Diagnostic Tablet Tester will be placed in all Honda and Acura service dealerships based in the United States.
With its modular hardware design, the Honda GDS2200 creates a mobile hardware environment delivering service information and custom diagnostic solutions directly to each Honda service technician. The diagnostic code for each Honda vehicle is easily accessed through a bar code scanner reading the Vehicle Identification Number. All diagnostic steps or service instructions are viewed on a 12.1" LCD and touch screen graphical interface. The Honda GDS2200 performs on a Microsoft(R) CE. NET(R) operating system using Intel(R) StrongARM(R) based technology. Use of this technology provides "instant on", long battery life and lower product weight than other Windows based devices.
The Honda GDS2200 is fitted with Teradyne's Modular Instrumentation Bay, providing direct access to Honda systems as well as a variety of other communications protocols, a sophisticated analogue measurement system and multiple interfaces to the host hardware. Standard interfaces such as USB and 10/100BaseT Ethernet, plus the support for PC-card devices, ensure Honda technicians complete application flexibility and connectivity with other peripherals and systems. A docking station is available for storage of the Honda GDS2200 and provides automatic charging and connection to a network.
In conjunction with Honda's global service database software program (HDS) developed by Teradyne, the Honda GDS2200 provides a customisable, open architecture test solution for automotive service applications. The GDS2200 is part of a complete Teradyne diagnostic solution that consists of hardware, embedded system software and PC software designed to communicate with the vehicle system. The solution is based on a core of service diagnostic solutions developed by Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions.
