Cummins Records 12,000 Orders for New Engines; More Emissions-Compliant Engines in Service Than Any Other Heavy-Duty Engine Supplier

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--March 19, 2003--Cummins Inc. today announced it has recorded orders for more than 12,000 of its engines compliant to the stringent EPA emissions regulations that went into effect in October. With more than 4,200 engines already in service, Cummins has more emissions-compliant engines in service than any heavy-duty engine manufacturer.
Fleets such as C.R. England, Celadon, Central Trucking Inc., First Fleet, Southeastern Freightlines, Summitt Trucking LLC, and Yanke Group of Companies have placed orders adding up to thousands of engines.
"These engines are proving their performance and reliability, and customers are pleased with what they see," said Cummins Executive Director - Marketing Tom Kieffer. "With more than 37 million miles already, and orders increasing - customers' experience and confidence are growing exponentially every day."
The Cummins Uptime Guarantee has eliminated risk for fleets by ensuring that if an engine failure occurs and is not fixed within 24 hours, Cummins will reimburse the cost of a rental truck for up to three days.
"Cummins has never waivered from our commitment to deliver the best products to customers at the new emissions standard," added Kieffer. "That commitment has paid off with thousands of products successfully in operation. Fleets who care about risk-free operation are taking notice."
