ZAP Electric Transportation, the Answer to Rising Oil Prices

Rent an Electric Vehicle for $5 a Day

SEBASTOPOL, Calif., March 6 -- With gas prices rising over $2 per gallon in many parts of the U.S., electric vehicle pioneer ZAP (BULLETIN BOARD: ZAPZ) wants to help people save money by renting out its ZAP vehicles for as low as $5 a day.

ZAP rents its vehicles as a way to educate consumers about the benefits of electric transportation. For the month of March, ZAP and its affiliate companies are renting its electric bicycles and ZAPPY scooters for $5 per day; its new VIENTO or LEPTON motorbikes for $7 per day; its electric neighborhood cars for $10 a day; and its freeway-capable electric cars for $15 a day. Rentals are subject to availability and these prices are good through March 31, 2003.

"We wanted to remind the public that the technology is here that can help save gasoline," said ZAP spokesperson Alex Campbell. "This is a great opportunity for people concerned with the rising price of gasoline and are looking for options. Most people have never tried electric vehicles, but it's amazing watching their reaction when they try one for the first time -- they love it!"

Campbell says electric vehicles are quiet, clean and fun, but they can also save money. An electric car can travel three times as far as a gasoline car for the same money; gas cars cost about ten cents a mile in fuel, electric cars cost about 3 cents per mile. Other ZAP vehicles, like its electric bicycles, cost about a penny for every five miles and achieve an average fuel efficiency of over 1000 miles per gallon compared to the average gas car.

"People can go to the store, school, or work using an electric vehicle, and save their gas cars for the times they need them," says Campbell. "We live in interesting times, but they remind us how important gasoline is to our economy. Saving a little gas here and there can help us all save money, but it can also help alleviate world oil shortages, which would benefit everyone."

A publicly owned company, ZAP stands for Zero Air Pollution(R). The company unveiled a new line of electric cars in January 2003 and is working to establish worldwide distribution for a full-line of electric transportation.
