TORONTO--Feb. 13, 2003--Alias/Wavefront(TM), an SGI company, announced today that Jang Yong Pil, an automotive design student at Hong-IK University in Seoul, Korea, has received a special award from Alias/Wavefront for best digital presentation at the World Automotive Design Competition sponsored by the Canadian International Auto Show(TM).
Jang Yong Pil won a seat of Alias/Wavefront DesignStudio(TM), computer aided industrial design (CAID) software (retail value of $7,500 USD), and a cash prize of $1000 for his concept of Run/Turn/Stop, a sporty concept vehicle designed for the taste and pocketbook of a young university student.
Sixty-eight entries, comprised of 90 students from 12 internationally recognized design schools entered this year's invitational Canadian automotive design challenge. Countries represented were China, India, Japan, Korea, England, Italy, France, Sweden, the USA and Canada.
"The ingenuity, sophistication and attention to practicality shown by the students in this international contest reflect how accomplished the next generation of automotive designers are going to be. Judging by the high caliber of the ideas I've seen here, I envision some very exciting, very diverse automobiles in our near future," observes Peter Mehlstaeubler, Vice President of Development, Alias/Wavefront, who presented the award during a press conference at the Canadian Auto Show this morning.
