Cummins Inc. Appoints Ravi Venkatesan Vice President- India

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--Jan. 28, 2003--Cummins Inc. today announced that Ravi Venkatesan, currently Managing Director - India, has been promoted to Vice President- India.
    Ravi is responsible for Cummins business in India including the Engine, Power Generation and International Distribution business units. He serves as Chairman and Managing Director of Cummins India Ltd., a publicly-listed company of which Cummins owns 51%, and its subsidiaries including Cummins Diesel Sales and Service. He is also Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Tata Cummins Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture with Tata Engineering (Telco). In addition, he has a critical role as advisor to other Cummins companies operating in India including Fleetguard, Holset and Newage.
    "India continues to play a big part in our future growth plans," said Steve Chapman, Cummins Vice President- International and President- International Distributor Business. "Over the past several years, Ravi and his team have taken a number of actions to improve the current business and set the foundation for future growth."
    Ravi joined Cummins in 1987 and has held various roles including Managing Director - Tata Cummins Ltd., General Manager of the Charleston complex, and General Manager of the Piston Ring Division. He also served as Director - Component Strategy, where he researched, developed and led implementation of Cummins worldwide strategic sourcing.
    Ravi is a member of the Executive Council of the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturing and the Confederation of Indian Industry. He has written three articles published in the Harvard Business Review: "The Strategy that Wouldn't Travel," " Strategic Sourcing - to Make or not to Make," and "Cummins Engine Flexes its Factories."
    Ravi earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. He earned his MS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 1986 and his MBA from Harvard University in 1992, where he was a Baker Scholar.
