Chrysler Group Reports U.S. December Sales

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 3, 2003 Chrysler Group
reported U.S. sales of 172,494 units in December 2002, a one percent increase
compared to December 2001, based on a daily selling rate.
Jeep(R) brand vehicles set an all-time record for December, with sales of
45,751 units, up 22 percent compared to December 2001. Jeep Grand Cherokee
led the way with 24,124 units, up 19 percent compared to December 2001. Jeep
Liberty sold 16,555 units, up 35 percent and Jeep Wrangler sales of 5,072
units were up nine percent.
For the 2002 calendar year, Jeep brand sales were 459,796 vehicles, an
increase of one percent compared to calendar year 2001. Jeep Liberty had
sales of 171,212, up 93 percent over 2001, while Jeep Grand Cherokee reported
sales of 224,233 units, up slightly over 2001.
"The continued success of Jeep vehicles underscores the brand's strong
reputation and segment leadership," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President -
Sales. "Consumers recognize the 'go-anywhere, do-anything' capabilities and
the value Jeep vehicles represent."
Dodge Ram set an all-time December sales record of 34,812 units, up 20
percent compared to December 2001. The all-new Dodge Ram Heavy Duty pickup
trucks were recently named Motor Trend's 2003 Truck of the Year.
"We are excited to have earned this coveted award from Motor Trend
magazine," added Dilts. "Consumers also recognize that Dodge Ram trucks are
the best pickups on the market today."
For the 2002 calendar year, the Dodge brand had sales of 1,264,782 units,
an increase of one percent compared to calendar year 2001. Dodge Ram sales
were 396,934 units, an increase of 15 percent compared to 2001. Total Dodge
car sales were 348,218 units, up six percent, compared to 2001. The Dodge
Neon sold 126,118 units, up 18 percent. Dodge Caravan recorded sales of
244,911 units, an increase of one percent compared to 2001, with the Dodge
Intrepid at 111,356 units, an increase of two percent.
In 2002, Chrysler Group sold 2,205,446 vehicles, compared to 2,273,208 in
2001, a decline of three percent.
"Last year was a positive year for the Chrysler Group and we're well
positioned for 2003," added Dilts. "Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers are
looking forward to the arrival of recently announced exciting new products."
Chrysler group finished the year with 517,429 units of inventory, or a 75-
day supply.
