Chevrolet Rock & Roll Tour Debuts In Las Vegas

Las Vegas - Elvis' jumpsuit from his 1972 Madison Square Garden concert and Prince's custom guitar from Purple Rain are among the rock memorabilia included in the Chevrolet Rock & Roll Tour, an 18-month nationwide traveling exhibit that kicks off December 7-9 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

"Chevrolet and Rock & Roll are woven into the fabric of American life," said Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet general manager. "The Chevrolet Rock & Roll Tour is a great way to celebrate our passion for the music and to bring one-of-a-kind rock-and-roll memorabilia to fans across the country."

The tour, part of the Chevrolet Rock & Roll marketing campaign launched in June, features interactive exhibits, and rare music memorabilia. Chevy's Rock & Roll trailer, created with the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino-Las Vegas, showcases the decades in rock from the 50's to present day with memorabilia from Elvis, Van Halen, Prince, Sheryl Crow and many others.

"It will be an opportunity for people across the country to have a chance to see a bit of rock history up close," said Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Creative Director and Curator Warwick Stone. "I've designed a special exhibit that incorporates some of our best memorabilia, rare originals you cannot see anywhere else."

In addition to Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Chevrolet also partners with Gibson Guitars, who contributes the Gibson Custom Shop Traveling Exhibit, and Rolling Stone, which provides some of the most memorable covers from the magazine that has chronicled music for over 35 years.

"Along with its tour partners, Chevrolet gives music fans a great opportunity to share in the rich history of popular music," said Jim Jandasek, Chevrolet director of car advertising. "The Chevrolet Rock & Roll Tour allows Chevrolet another opportunity to deliver on its brand promise that 'We'll Be There' and gives visitors a unique look at some of the most memorable moments in music history."

  • The Rolling Stone Photo Op allows visitors the opportunity to have their digital picture taken on a Rolling Stone cover that they can retrieve on the Chevy.com website.

  • The Gibson exhibit is one of the most comprehensive displays of guitars and guitar information ever, including Gibson's Custom Collection and Historic Collection of guitars and one-of-a-kind and limited edition instruments.

  • Visitors in the Chevy Rock & Roll exhibit can listen to music from the 1950s to present from XM radio and play along with their favorite song at the GuitarPort exhibit, presented by Line 6.

  • Chevrolet historic, concept and production vehicles will also be displayed as part of the tour, including vehicles like the Corvette that have inspired musicians throughout the decades.

The Chevrolet Rock & Roll Tour, with Gibson Guitar, Rolling Stone, and Campbell-Ewald, Chevrolet's longtime advertising and marketing communications partner, will travel the country throughout 2003, stopping at music, motorsports and other events. The schedule will be available from Chevy.com in January.
