Freightliner to close Wis. fire truck plant

CHICAGO, Sept 29, 2002, Reuters reported friday that Freightliner, the truck manufacturing arm of DaimlerChrysler AG , will close its Wisconsin fire truck manufacturing plant, resulting in the loss of about 155 jobs, the company said in a filing with the state.

The Shawano, Wisconsin, facility will close in March 2003 and its operations will be consolidated into other facilities within the company's American LaFrance fire truck division, according to the filing.

The filing, with Wisconsin's bureau of workforce programs, was received this week. Federal rules require large employers that want to close a facility to give at least 60 days' notice to a state's dislocated worker unit.
