AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Mixed Prices at the Gas Pumps

HOUSTON--Sept. 13, 2002--Depending on where motorists drove throughout the state during the past week, gas prices either went slightly up or down, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
Despite the movement, the statewide average price for regular self-serve managed to hold steady at $1.33 -- unchanged for the past few weeks. The Austin - San Marcos area edged out Corpus Christi for the least expensive fuel at $1.283, up 0.5 cent since last week. Corpus Christi is not far behind at $1.287 a gallon, down 0.7 cent compared to last week. San Antonio showed the biggest increase of 1.2 cents at $1.289 a gallon. Dallas tops the list again with the most expensive fuel in Texas at $1.335 a gallon, despite a decrease of 0.4 cent.
"Concerns about military action in the Middle East have pushed crude oil prices to $29 a barrel," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "However, the increased price of crude oil and the potential showdown between the United States and Iraq have not transferred to an increase in prices at the pumps."
