Auto Club Insurance Exchange Chosen as Top Industry Performer

LOS ANGELES--Sept. 9, 2002--The Interinsurance Exchange of the Automobile Club has been chosen as a top industry performer for the ninth year in a row by the 2002 Ward's 50 Benchmark Group.
Each year since 1991, Ward Group, a Cincinnati-based management consulting and investment banking firm specializing in the insurance industry, has analyzed industry performance. Twenty-seven hundred companies were analyzed this year. The Ward's 50 Benchmark Group recognizes insurance companies who have excelled at balancing safety, consistency and performance over a five-year period and benchmarks their performance with the industry as a whole.
"The Exchange is honored to be included in the Ward's 50 Benchmark Group, " said James Gilmartin, senior vice president, insurance operations. "Consumers need to know that their insurance company is both financially sound and a consistent performer in delivering quality service. It adds to their peace of mind in buying insurance."
Companies in Ward's 50 Benchmark Group are ranked by financial and performance tests. A company's history including surpluses, premium growth and returns on assets, equity and revenues are all analyzed and ranked in comparison to other insurance companies.
In addition to being included in the Ward's 50 Benchmark Group, the Exchange received an A+ rating from A.M. Best this year. The A+ rating, which recognizes superior performance, is awarded after a comprehensive evaluation of a company's balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile.
Best has ranked the Exchange among the 20 largest insurers of private passenger autos in the nation and among the top 20 most efficiently run insurance companies.
