Dow Automotive Supports Habitat for Humanity Detroit Build

DETROIT, Sept. 9 -- Dow Automotive employees will participate in Habitat for Humanity's Blitz Build in Detroit the week of September 7-13. Teams of employees will work to build a home in Habitat for Humanity's Tri-Centennial Village, a 16-block neighborhood located on the city's west side. When completed, the Village project will have over 60 new affordable Habitat homes.

More than 100 Dow Automotive employees will help construct the 1,150 square-foot ranch home, including raising walls, setting trusses, roofing, siding, and initial landscape work on the property. Other volunteers will finish the home, set for completion and dedication in November. In addition, more than 1,200 board feet of Dow STYROFOAM(TM) extruded polystyrene has been donated by Dow for the exterior insulation on the home.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the Dow Automotive team to come together to give back to the community," said Larry Denton, Dow Automotive president. "We are especially excited to be working on this home as part of Habitat's team for the revitalization of Detroit."

"We are very pleased that Dow Automotive will be participating in a special 'Blitz Build' with families in need of affordable housing," states Rob Dewaelsche, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Detroit. "This year's activities partner businesses with faith based organizations in recognition of Habitat's mission."

Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity Detroit has provided simple, decent housing to Detroit families in need. Habitat Detroit's current efforts are focused on creating Tri-Centennial Village -- a new 60 home development project in Detroit's Core City Neighborhood. Habitat for Humanity provides the first step in a revitalization process that leads families, and ultimately entire neighborhoods, to dignity, self sufficiency and prosperity.

The Dow Chemical Company has been involved with Habitat for Humanity since the early 1980s as employees became interested in local affiliates and requested product donations. Since then, the company has donated more than $10 million in product and house sponsorship worldwide, most recently participating in a build during World Youth Day festivities in Toronto and the Jimmy Carter Work Project in South Africa this past summer.
