AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Slight Decreases After Labor Day Holiday

HOUSTON--Sept. 6, 2002--The price for a gallon of regular self-serve has dropped slightly in most major Texas cities since the Labor Day weekend, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The statewide average price for regular self-serve is $1.33 -- unchanged since last week. San Antonio and the Austin - San Marcos area are vying for the least expensive gasoline. Motorists in San Antonio are paying $1.277, down 0.9 cent while drivers in the Austin - San Marcos area are paying $1.278, down 0.1 cent compared to the week before. Corpus Christi showed the biggest drop of 1.4 cents at $1.294 a gallon. Dallas tops the list again with the most expensive gas in Texas at $1.339 a gallon, down 0.1 cent. Houston is the only city that remained unchanged.
"There may be more price decreases in store for motorists since the summer driving season is officially over," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "However, if tensions between the U.S. and Iraq escalate that may help drive fuel prices upward."
