Its NOT OKa - Ford recalls 78,500 Spanish-built Ka Models

Madrid, Aug 20 Reuters reported that Ford Motor Co. has recalled 78,500 of its Spanish-built Ka models in Europe because of a possible brake defect, the company said on Tuesday.

"We have recalled for review 78,500 of the Ka models because we can't rule out that, under extreme conditions, they could leak brake fluid," a company spokesman in Spain said.

"All of the units were built in the first half of 2001 in our plant in Valencia," the spokesman said, adding that about 5,000 of those units were sold in Spain.

A spokesman for Ford in London said that around 30,000 of the Ka model cars recalled in Europe were in Britain.

The European recall was due to a loose clip on a brake hose, which could have led to brake fluid leaking, the London spokesman said.

"We are several weeks into the recall," he said.
