Volkswagen Canada begins selling Jetta Wagon

AJAX, ON, Aug. 19 /CNW/ - Volkswagen Canada Inc., announced that its new Jetta Wagon is now available to consumers nationwide. The Volkswagen Jetta Wagon, which was first revealed at the 2001 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, represents the first time Volkswagen has offered a wagon version of its best selling car in Canada. The Jetta Wagon is equipped with a standard 2.0L, 115 horsepower four-cylinder engine. The fuel-efficient TDI engine is also available, promising great performance and fuel economy. The sportiest version of the Jetta wagon will come with Volkswagen's renowned 1.8T four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that pumps out 180 horsepower and 174 lbs. ft. of torque.

In addition to offering the Jetta's dynamic European styling and performance, the Jetta Wagon comfortably seats five adults and provides 34 cubic feet of usable cargo room and 70.6 cubic feet with the seat folded.

At a base price of $25,435, the 2.0-liter GLS model becomes the lowest priced German built and engineered wagon in the compact car market. The top-of- the-line Jetta GLS Wagon model has a base price of $27,545 and includes the 1.8T 180 horsepower turbocharged four cylinder engine.

On the safety front, for protection when an accident can't be avoided, all Jettas offer a multitude of state-of-the-art safety features and structural elements designed to work together as a safety system to help protect its occupants. Over the last few years, the Jetta sedan has received several significant safety designations, including a 5-Star NCAP front-crash rating (4-Star for side impact) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and a "Good" (one of only three small cars to receive this designation) overall crash rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The Jetta's safety system begins with its exceptionally rigid body structure that includes energy-absorbing crumple zones. In a severe crash, these deformation zones sacrifice themselves in an accordion-like fashion, absorbing the energy to help spare the critical central structure.

This system works in concert with an advanced supplemental restraint system. In addition to front driver and passenger airbags, the car uses a seat belt tensioning system that tightens and optimally positions the front safety belts within milliseconds of a severe crash. These three-point safety belts are also equipped with shoulder height adjustments, and to help secure a child safety seat-which should only be used in the rear seats - automatic locking retractors (ALR) and emergency locking retractors (ELR) are provided.

Like all Jettas, the wagon will come abundantly equipped with more than 40 standard items. A short list includes: a premium eight-speaker cassette stereo with CD; side airbag protection in front seats; Lower Anchorage and Tether for Children (LATCH) and upper child seat tether points; four-disc ABS brakes; height and telescoping steering wheel; heated remote mirrors; central remote locking; a center-cut folding key; string attachment to the fuel cap; two power outlets; power windows; power mirrors; cruise control; center armrest; and much more.
