Chrysler Group Reports U.S. June Sales
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 2 Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 202,822 units for June, a four percent decline compared to the same period last year.
Sales of the company's newest products continued to post strong results, despite weaker industry sales last month. Sales of the Chrysler PT Cruiser set a June record with 13,134 units sold, up 30 percent from June 2001. PT Cruiser sales helped the Chrysler brand set an all-time June sales record of 47,412 units, up six percent over last year's record of 46,519.
Sales of the Jeep® Liberty rose to 13,243 units in the latest month. That result marked a 55 percent gain from year-earlier levels, which was the second month of sales for the new compact sport-utility.
Sales of the all-new Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck were up 35 percent in June compared to the same month a year ago, boosting overall Dodge Ram sales to 34,053 units in June, an increase of 17 percent. "Demand remains strong for Ram," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. "Dealers tell us we have the right product mix, and the sales momentum will help us as we prepare to launch Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 a few months from now."
Dilts also noted several successes in core segments of the market, notably sales of the Chrysler and Dodge industry-leading minivans. With six days before the National Minivan Sales Event program expires, the company already has exceeded its goal of selling more than 100,000 units. The buyer program began April 23.
"Nineteen years after inventing the minivan, Chrysler and Dodge still command nearly 40 percent of this lucrative market, and we are closing in on the sale of our 10 millionth minivan," said Dilts.
Car sales highlights for June include:
- Chrysler Sebring Sedan sales of 4,466 units were up two percent over a year ago
- Chrysler Sebring Convertible sales of 5,418 units were up 11 percent over a year ago
- Chrysler Concorde sales of 2,844 units were up 15 percent over a year ago
- Dodge Neon sales of 12,115 units were up six percent over a year ago
Chrysler Group ended June with a 65-day supply of inventory, which is considered normal for the period.
