Hyundai Arms Service Technicians With Hi-Tech Tools To Repair Today's Hi-Tech Cars

PC-Based Hyundai Diagnostic System III Helps Keep Technicians On Top of the Technology Curve

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 25 -- Today's Hyundai vehicles feature on-board computers, drive-by-wire throttle, anti-lock braking, local area networking and many other hi-tech components and systems that make driving a joy, but servicing these technical wonders require equally modern tools and equipment. The PC-based Hyundai Diagnostic System III (HDS III) is Hyundai's answer to keeping technicians a step ahead of the advanced vehicles they service.

Technicians today reference bookcases of service bulletins and various troubleshooting manuals when servicing a vehicle -- time consuming research that can reduce their efficiency. HDS III is built on Internet search engine technology, but designed specifically for automotive software data retrieval. Using a simple Web browser interface, technicians can retrieve important service data from a library of more than 100,000 pages of service manuals, bulletins and other service information in seconds, which maximizes the amount of time they spend working on vehicles.

"With automotive technology making daily advancements, it's important that our service personnel have the tools and information to keep pace," said Chuck Halper, vice president, Service. "HDS III is the latest in a series of technically advanced tools to ensure that our technicians spend more time servicing cars than looking for information for diagnostic help."

The HDS III system also features an award-winning set of diagnostic tools that ensure accurate and fast analysis of a vehicle's complex operating systems. One of the staples of the HDS III diagnostic system is the Simu-Tech tool set, comprised of three diagnostic tools:

-- Sweep Test makes approximately 50 diagnostic measurements in little over a minute to pinpoint problems a technician might take hours to find. Sweep Test also offers immediate context-sensitive help to fix the conditions. -- Custom Meters include waveforms, bar charts and variation charts, while digital meters include frequency, dwell, voltage, duty cycle and pulse width. -- Signal Waveforms allows technicians to view up to seven live signals simultaneously, backed up with a full library of waveform samples to help verify the technician's diagnosis.

Simu-Tech enables tests to be saved and played back, or printed out for detailed analysis. In addition to the tools in the Simu-Tech suite, HDS III offers additional services and benefits:

-- Remote Rescue enables a Hyundai field service engineer to take real- time control of a dealerships HDS III remotely. -- Scan Tool Updates gives technicians the ability to download scan tool software over the Internet for the latest in component reprogramming. -- Interactive Training that takes place at the dealership ensures that learning how to use the HDS III requires no travel or lost time. -- Access to the Internet puts a wealth of technical-oriented information right at the technician's fingertips. -- ABS-Tech makes dynamic ABS checks without ever leaving the shop. -- Trans-Tech allows the technician to monitor the operation of an automatic transaxle in order to pinpoint the need for repairs or to exchange the assembly.
