Testing Shows New GORE-TEX TriGuard Gaskets Provide Dramatically Tighter Seal

ELKTON, Md.--May 29, 2002--GORE-TEX(R) TriGuard(TM) gaskets from W. L. Gore & Associates are designed for positive sealing of aggressive fluid piping applications on fragile flanges or flanges with irregularities, where bolt torque and gasket compression stress must be limited.
Gore's unique, patented gasket construction technique using 100% expanded PTFE material successfully combines the sealability characteristics of elastomers with the temperature and chemical resistance of PTFE. As a result, reliable sealing can be achieved at very low gasket compressions.
Outside testing completed in April 2002 by Ecole Polytechnique demonstrated successful gas-tight sealing at 250 psi, which is one-tenth the stress required with other PTFE gaskets.(a)
ASTM F-37 sealability testing at lower bolt loads also shows that these gaskets provide a seal many times tighter than other forms of ePTFE and PTFE gaskets can accomplish. Plus, the gasket's high creep resistance reduces the need for retorquing.
GORE-TEX(R) TriGuard(TM) gaskets are ideal for contamination services and highly aggressive fluids, including chlorine and many monomer services. They are available in 1/2" to 28" ANSI ring and full face gasket sizes.
