Sports Car Event Planned For Downtown Elmira
PrixView Party Highlights Watkins Glen Race

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (MAY 9, 2002) -- Elmira Downtown Development, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and Watkins Glen International will join forces to host the first ever PrixView Party in downtown Elmira on June 19, running from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. The event is being held in conjunction with the Sports Car Grand Prix weekend at The Glen, June 21-23, which is highlighted by the historic 6 Hours of The Glen.

The event, geared toward educating residents about sports car racing, will be around Elmira's Wisner Park, home of the famed Wisner Market. The Market will be moved to Wednesday for one special week to allow PrixView Party visitors to sample the food and other specialties featured on Summer Thursdays. Many of the exotic sports cars that will be racing at The Glen over the course of the weekend will be featured at the PrixView Party, as well as team transporters and track pace cars.

"With Watkins Glen the birthplace of American road racing, sports cars are a strong part of this area's heritage," said Craig Rust, President of Watkins Glen International. "This event provides race fans with an exciting way to see and learn more about these spectacular and exotic cars that compete every year at Watkins Glen International and experience the unique atmosphere that comes with sports car racing."

Cars from the Rolex Sports Car Series, Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series and Ferrari Challenge will be featured and include the open-cockpit prototypes and GT cars, such as Porsches, Corvettes and Saleens. In addition, a number of sports car drivers will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and sign autographs for fans. Team transporters will be open, giving fans an up-close and personal view of these large scale mobile garages.
