LA Auto Club Expands Towing to Motorcycles

LOS ANGELES--May 7, 2002--The Automobile Club of Southern California today announced motorcycle towing for its five million members. This is the first time in the Auto Club's 101-year history that it has provided towing service for motorcycles.
The Auto Club introduced motorcycle towing based on analysis of an increasing number of requests among its members and on a 15 percent growth in California motorcycle registrations between 1997 and 2000. This analysis was followed by a yearlong study that included providing service to a limited number of members who called for motorcycle towing service. This study provided the framework within which the towing benefit was developed.
"Statistics show that a growing number of Californians are buying and riding motorcycles," said Sharon Supple, vice president of Emergency Road Services. "We want to be sure that our towing service is available for our members whether they travel on four wheels or two. During our study, we learned what our members would require for this service and refined our ability to provide it."
The new benefit has been added to the existing RV service option and has been renamed Recreational Vehicle and Motorcycle Roadside Assistance service option. The new service is available to any motorcycle licensed for highway use. Members purchasing this $23 added benefit would receive a combination of four service calls of up to $200 per disablement for RV or motorcycle towing or RV tire change service.
Members who purchase the Recreational Vehicle and Motorcycle Roadside Assistance service option will use a dedicated telephone number that directs calls to Auto Club service counselors who regularly coordinate the special needs required for a motorcycle tow.
The Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest affiliate of the AAA, has been serving members since 1900. Today, the Auto Club's members benefit by roadside assistance, insurance products and services, travel agency, financial products, automotive pricing, buying and financing programs, automotive testing and analysis, trip planning services, highway and transportation safety programs. Information about these products and services is available on the Auto Club's Web site at www.aaa-calif.com.
