AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Decrease At Popular Driving Destinations

    HOUSTON--May 3, 2002--Gas prices in most major Texas cities fell slightly compared to a week ago, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
    In Texas, the Austin - San Marcos area is at the low end of the price scale at $1.313 a gallon for regular self-serve, down 0.6 cents since last week. Corpus Christi falls mid-way at $1.337, down 1 cent. Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston are at the higher end, with an average price of $1.38 a gallon.
    "The average price of gasoline has remained stable for the past couple of weeks," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson. "However, motorists may see a price hike around Memorial Day, when demand for fuel typically increases."
