ENRG Joins Research on the Potential of Hydrogen as an Alternative Vehicle Fuel

SEAL BEACH, Calif.--April 24, 2002--ENRG, North America's leader in clean transportation, has initiated a collaborative research program for the advancement of hydrogen as an alternative vehicle fuel.
The company now supplies natural gas (CNG and LNG) as an alternative vehicle fuel in the United States and Canada and plans to use its developing expertise and infrastructure as a platform for hydrogen fueling.
"ENRG is committed to helping develop hydrogen infrastructure technology and know-how in concert with technology companies, transportation companies, vehicle manufacturers and government agencies," said Andrew J. Littlefair, president and CEO of ENRG. "While others focus on hydrogen production or vehicle engine and fuel cell development, our special expertise is in the critical infrastructure that will be needed to enable the efficient and effective delivery of hydrogen fuel to the marketplace for fleet customers and individual consumers. Our near-term focus is on supporting hydrogen vehicle demonstration programs and augmenting our expertise in hydrogen fuel technology."
Environmental concern has motivated much of the growing interest in energy-efficient technology and alternative power sources, all of which depend upon the use of inherently cleaner fuels. Additionally, energy security concerns favor fuels that are not only clean, but also domestic. Economic interests require that such fuels be economical. Although natural gas is the most viable fuel to address these concerns over the near- and mid-term years, ENRG believes hydrogen may have the potential to achieve greater environmental, economic and security benefits over the long term.
ENRG is the largest provider of vehicular natural gas (CNG and LNG) and related services in North America. It has a broad customer base that includes refuse, transit, shuttle, taxi, police, intrastate and interstate trucking, airport and municipal fleet markets with over 25,000 private and public fleet vehicles fueling at more than 90 locations, principally in California and Arizona in the US, and in British Columbia and Ontario in Canada. Customers range from Los Angeles International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, to SuperShuttle, SunLine Transit and Waste Management, to MTDB of San Diego and the US Navy. The company also has an agreement with Ford Motor Company to help market alternative fuel vehicles. ENRG is a private company whose major shareholders include Boone Pickens, BC Gas Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc. . Company information is available at www.enrgfuel.com.
