All American Charity Event to Bring Fast Cars and Dennis Quaid Concert To North Texas

DALLAS, April 17 -- The Steve Sanderson Charitable Foundation will rock North Texas with its ``Celebrity Motorsports Classic'' from 3 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. This star-studded event will feature rides in the legendary Shelby Cobra and Series 1 sports cars, famous celebrities racing, autograph session with Carroll Shelby, car show, racing and live concert by movie star Dennis Quaid and his band ``The Sharks.'' The event will raise money to fight the debilitating illness of Alzheimer's Disease.

``It's time to get fast and furious to beat terrible diseases like Alzheimer's,'' said Steve Sanderson, President of the Steve Sanderson Charitable Foundation. ``The Celebrity Motorsports Classic will attract top racing legends and superstars to the Texas Motor Speedway. This is an opportunity to ride in wildly fast sports cars with a famous driver like Tom Sneva or Bob Bondurant. Participants can also meet Carroll Shelby and Cheech Marin, as well as enjoy Dennis Quaid's rock and roll. It'll be a family affair with activities and music for everyone, all while raising money for a great cause.''

Established in 2001 to eradicate Alzheimer's Disease, the Foundation's first event was held on September 24, 2001, when John O'Hurley hosted a celebrity golf tournament in Frisco, Texas. The tournament and gala attracted celebrities such as Alice Cooper, Angie Harmon, Jim McMahon and Larry Brown.

Fresh on the heels of his hit movie, ``The Rookie,'' Dennis Quaid will bring his band, ``Dennis Quaid and the Sharks,'' to headline the charity event. Critics have said the band provides an exciting American rock and roll experience with Jerry Lee Lewis-like guitar and vocals, as well as visual spectacles that leave the crowd cheering. Singing classics like ``Great Balls of Fire,'' the group is a true rock band led by the exuberant Quaid. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

The public will have the chance to experience the legendary Shelby Cobra, which has won sports car and racing championships worldwide. A 427 Cobra, Shelby Series 1, 289 Cobra and a factory racing Cobra will be displayed at the event. Individuals will have the opportunity to ride and test drive one of the performance models on the challenging Texas Motor Speedway. In addition, enthusiasts can view hundreds of Shelby performance vehicles and Vipers, watch Sneva and Bondurant race, purchase memorabilia and sign a birthday card for the 40th birthday of the Cobra.

``Carroll Shelby made every others sports car in the world obsolete with his Cobra in 1962,'' said racing legend Bob Bondurant. ``Now anyone can own one of these sizzling cars because Shelby American is offering new Cobras again. Those attending the Celebrity Motorsports Classic will have the chance to personally find out how exciting a Cobra and the Shelby Series 1 can be.''

With hundreds of awards, honors and wins throughout a prestigious racing career that began in Texas, Carroll Shelby is the ``King of Speed.'' In addition to establishing the first racing school in the United States, he created the Cobra roadster. Depending upon configuration, a Cobra can hit 60 mph in under 4 seconds and complete the quarter mile in less than 12 seconds. This sports car was crowned the ``most significant car of the last 50 years'' by Motor Trend Magazine in 1999.

``This event is sure to be one of the most memorable motorsports spectacles in North Texas,'' stated Sanderson. ``The line up of celebrities will make this the most exciting fund raising event in North Texas. We hope everyone will join us to have fun while furthering the fight against disease.''
