Carmichael Wins 4th At Georgia Dome

AMA / EA Sports Supercross Series Round 8: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
Saturday, February 23, 2002

Honda Racing's Ricky Carmichael simply dominated the technical
Georgia Dome race track from start to finish. RC started off the night by
winning his heat race over Pastrana and McGrath.
In the main event, RC pulled the holeshot and was virtually uncontested all
the way to the checkered flag.

"My confidence is back," said a happy Carmichael. "Every week things just
keep clicking out there for me and I have to say a lot of it is my CR250R.
Basically we've had the same set-up for quite some time now and everything
is just starting to gel. It's still only half-way through the season so we
need to stay focused on the championship. I want the title bad."

Carmichael became the first 250cc rider to win 4 Supercross main events
thus far in the 2002 EA Sports Supercross season and is now only 20 points
behind series points leader David Vuillemin.

Red Rider Sebastien Tortelli continues to show strong improvement since
returning to race action from a shoulder injury sustained in 2001. Tortelli
again was right up front at the start of the 250cc main event, and rode a
strong 20-lap race to finish 4th for the night.

"It was a battle out there," said Tortelli. "I had a very intense race with
Roncada, but was finally able to get by him and close in a bit on McGrath.
I am feeling more comfortable out there and really want that podium finish
badly."

Honda Racing's Ernesto Fonseca was surprised to see a huge contingent of
fans that had flown in from his native country of Costa Rica. Fonseca was
greeted with gifts, and warm wishes by many, which continues to show that
AMA Supercross racing is touching a truly global audience.

Fonseca looked great in the main event until he had a mishap with another
rider and went down. The hard-charging Red Rider stormed through the pack
to finish in 11th place from a dead-last remount.

Amsoil / Dr. Marten / Journeys / Honda Racing's Mike LaRocco sustained a
right broken wrist in Minneapolis one week ago, and will be out of action
for 8-10 weeks. LaRocco is undergoing a strong rehabilitation program to
get his wrist back to 100%. LaRocco's teammate Michael Byrne is still
mending from his crash two weeks ago in Indianapolis, IN.

Honda Racing's Nathan Ramsey injured his left shoulder in the 250cc main
event last week in Minneapolis. The talented Red Rider decided to take this
week off to be fully recovered by the Daytona Supercross in two weeks.
Daytona is one of the most physically demanding Supercross tracks of the
sixteen race series.
