New York City's Transit Authority Uses Engelhard Technology to Clean Diesel Buses

    ISELIN, N.J.--Feb. 19, 2002--Almost 700 diesel-powered buses will be cruising New York City's streets more cleanly thanks in part to emission control technology from Engelhard Corporation.
    The buses, including 190 new and 500 existing vehicles, will emit almost no black smoke.
    Engelhard's DPX(TM) catalytic particulate filters are combined with advanced electronic engine controls on the buses to destroy more than 90% of particulate matter - which is responsible for the black smoke associated with diesel engines - when used with the low-sulfur fuel. The system also significantly reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions.
    The Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York City (MTA NYC) is the largest operator of municipal buses in the nation. They plan to use the emission-control technology in both new and existing buses.

    Under normal operating conditions, the particulate filter continually regenerates, cleaning itself without external controls or heating devices. It will not affect fuel economy, performance, acceleration or warranty coverage.
