Friends of Oceano Dunes Hosts Beach Cleanup Event At Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area;

    OCEANO, Calif.--Jan. 16, 2002--

    Non-profit organization introduces "Clean Beaches" program
    -- a series of beach cleanup events to be held throughout the year

    Friends of Oceano Dunes today announced its first Clean Beaches event at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area (ODSVRA). The beach cleanup event is open to the public and will begin at noon on January 19, 2002. The group will meet two miles south of the Arroyo Grande Creek (pole 5) in the ODSVRA. Trash bags and pick-up will be provided by State Parks. As part of the cleanup, a contest will be held to give away a free dinner for two at a local restaurant.
    "I'm excited to be leading the Friends of Oceano Dunes' first winter beach cleanup," said Anthony Herring, Clean Beaches' coordinator. "It's a great opportunity to bring the whole family out to enjoy the dunes, while at the same time, teach our children to appreciate and care for our environment."
    Anyone interested in more information or in need of a ride out to the cleanup site can contact Herring at cleanbeaches@oceanodunes.org or call Ron Hartley at (559) 284-3457. Additional information about the cleanup event can be found in the chat forum on the group's web site, www.oceanodunes.org. To find the discussion, click on "Forum" and then on "Plan a Trip."
    Although the non-profit organization supports the state-wide coastal cleanup day in September, the membership felt it was time to further promote responsible recreation through a series of cleanup events at the frequently attended state park. The "Clean Beaches" program sponsored by Friends of Oceano Dunes will consist of semi-monthly cleanup events at the ODSVRA. To receive more information on future Clean Beaches events send an email to cleanbeaches@oceanodunes.org.
