Carroll Shelby:Hey Kids! Draw the Car of Your Dreams for Fame and Fortune

Fifth Annual Kids Automotive Art contest to Benefit The Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 -- Every child dreams of a special car -- exotic, sporty, uniquely equipped -- that they'd love to drive. The 5th Annual Kids Automotive Art Contest, presented by Road & Track Magazine and the Automotive Fine Arts Society to benefit the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation(TM) lets kids commit those dreams to paper and tell today's automotive designers what the younger generation wants to be driving in the future. The contest's grand prize winner will receive a $4,000 Series EE U.S. Savings Bond, four First Prize winners will each receive a $2,000 Series U.S. Savings Bond and all five of the top winners will have their dream designs published in a future issue of Road & Track.

The Kids Automotive Art Contest is open to all children in kindergarten through eighth grade as of September 30, 2001. Just sign on to one of the official Carroll Shelby web sites at either www.carrollshelby.org or www.shelbychildrensfoundation.org and print out the official rules and entry form. The sites also feature winning examples from the past four contests for inspiration.

Children should paint or draw the car they want to drive when they grow up on standard 8-1/2 by 11-inch paper or illustration board. No photography, sculpture or computer-generated artwork will be accepted. The artwork should be original, not copied or replicated and must be the work of the child entrant, with no outside help creating it.

Entries will be judged in four grade categories (K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8) by a panel composed of Road &Track art directors, members of the Automotive Fine Arts Society, designers from more than 40 participating automotive companies and sponsors from Acura to Volvo. All entries must be postmarked by January 24, 2002.

Forty finalists will be chosen from all entries, ten from each grade category. Each of the finalists will receive an official prize package containing a contest T-short, a certificate of creativity, a one-year subscription to Road & Track, a Carroll Shelby Children's foundation sticker and an specially autographed photo of Carroll Shelby. Winners will be notified on or about April 1, 2002.

Following a successful heart transplant, legendary racer and auto manufacturer Carroll Shelby created the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation(TM) in October 1991, dedicated to providing assistance for acute coronary and kidney care for indigent children. To date the Foundation has helped numerous children and provided seed monies to launch a similar program -- the Shelby Transplant Trust -- in England. The Foundation also provides grants to organizations conducting research in the fields of coronary and organ transplant management.

Funding for the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation(TM) comes from an annual charity golf tournament, proceeds from chili-cook-offs, generous donations given in exchange for Carroll's autographs and through his personal appearance fees. In addition, the national and regional Shelby American Automobile Clubs, the Shelby Mustang Clubs and the Shelby Dodge Clubs all include the foundation as an active participant and beneficiary of their national and regional convention event proceeds.
