Hiskey Overall Winner at Thunderhill

Hiskey Overall Winner at Thunderhill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WILLOWS, Calif. (December 1, 2001) - Kim Hiskey and her Crazy Redhead Racing team overcame almost impossible hurdles to be the first to cross the finish line at the 2001 12 Hours of Thunderhill.

Hiskey and her Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series teammate, Randy Pobst, and crew chief, Greg Fordahl, took home first place overall at Thunderhill Raceway Park on Saturday. Pobst turned in the fastest qualifying lap in the ES-unlimited class with a 1:49.2.

Despite the tough competition, the #18 Fordahl Motorsports/Crazy Redhead Racing/Yokohama/Helly Hansen/Alpine Hut/ MacNeil Automotive's WeatherTech Brand -sponsored Porsche RSR beat out the other 52 entries, finishing four laps up on the nearest competitor.

"The competition was unbelievable," Hiskey said. "The BMW 328 and the Porsche RS America really gave us a good run. It got a little tough at times, but it was fun."

The competition wasn't the only thing the Crazy Redhead team had to overcome. Wet, windy conditions plagued the track throughout the 12 Hours.

"The weather definitely made the day worse," Hiskey said. "Thunderhill is a very hard track with all of its twists and turns. The dark, rainy conditions made it pretty scary at times. You couldn't afford to make any mistakes by going off of the racing surface. If you went into the mud off the track, there was no getting out."

To make matters worse, the ABS on the #18 Porsche went out very early in the race.

"Driving without ABS is tough enough," Hiskey said. "But when you have to drive without it in the rain, it's almost impossible."

This is the second time Hiskey has been the overall winner at the 12 Hours. She won the event in 1999 in a 1994 Porsche RSR.

"We had a great time out there," Hiskey said. "Randy, Greg and I are very comfortable and familiar with each other and work great as a team."

Hiskey and Pobst proved to make a great team in the 2001 Grand-Am season, winning three races in the highly competitive GT class, and finishing fourth in team points.
