Put the Pedal to the Metal On EA.com; EA Ships Motor City Online for the PC

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--Nov. 1, 2001--Start your engines and get ready to tear up the streets of Motor City as Electronic Arts has begun to release the highly anticipated, car lover's dream come true, Motor City Online for the PC. Hosted on EA.com, players can grab their favorite grease rag and experience a nostalgic and exciting piece of Americana through Motor City Online. A new online racing simulation PC title under the EA GAMES(TM) brand, Motor City Online is the first game of its kind to feature a massive Internet racing and community-building experience, all inspired by the "Golden Age" of American car culture.
"We are very excited about the debut of this revolutionary game," said Erick Hachenburg, general manager of EA.com. "We're delivering on our commitment to EA.com's 25 million registered members to bring out original, action-packed online games that build web communities and we've accomplished that with Motor City Online."
Motor City Online flashes back to feature classic American hot rods - custom, stocks, classics and muscle cars - licensed from the Big Three manufacturers of Ford, Chevrolet(TM) and Chrysler(TM), spanning from the 1930s through the early 1970s. Rule the streets with 60 licensed American classics ranging from the '32 Deuce Coup to the '73 Firebird Trans Am. Each vehicle can be modified and fully customized with over two thousand real-life car parts and accessories from the likes of Edelbrock(TM), Holley(TM) and Hurst(TM). From nitrous to wheelie bars, players are encouraged to test various stock and high performance parts to give them the extra edge they need to grab the checkered flag. Collect, customize and race several different classic vehicles and compete with thousands of other drivers online for ultimate bragging rights and "top dog" honors.
The online world of Motor City consists of 24 challenging tracks and four different racing modes: Time Trials, Drag, Circuit and Street racing. Race against the clock in the competitive Time Trials or beef up your favorite hot rod and burn rubber on one of Motor City's speedy Drag strips. Drivers can also stop by the closed Circuit races for a classic oval race and some good, old-fashioned grand prix style racing... just don't forget the helmet and gloves. And for the true hardcore enthusiasts, the Street courses are designed for racers to dodge traffic, pedestrians and other obstacles and push the limits within Motor City by racing against other players through the back alleys, suburbs, country roads and downtown streets.
Before each race, drivers will have the opportunity to place wagers ranging from a few bucks, to a player's salary, to the ultimate Motor City competition... a winner-take-all pink slip race. Or, for a less risky experience, players can race just for fun and for an opportunity to see their name on top of the leader board. Throughout a player's racing experience, the constantly updating Motor City "Community Center" will track each driver's cash, performance and progression and serve as the epicenter for all breaking news, including new auctions, tournament results and club rankings. The latest Motor City news and happenings can also be viewed from the official product website: www.motorcityonline.com.
Motor City Online carries an ESRB rating of "Ei" (Everyone) and was developed by EA Seattle and published worldwide by Electronic Arts ("EA"). The game has an MSRP of US$39.99 and will require players to sign up for an EA.com account. Subscribers will receive their first month free and then be charged a monthly rate of $9.99 beginning after the first month. Consumers may purchase the game directly at the EA Store(SM) (http://www.eastore.ea.com) or by calling EA Direct Sales at 1.877.324.2637.
