KleenAir Seeks CARB Retrofit Verification

FULLERTON, Calif.--Oct. 24, 2001--KleenAir Systems Inc. (OTCBB:KAIR) has applied to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for certification of its NOxMaster(R) NOx and particulate reduction system. Such certification will allow the Company to sell its products in California, which has the strictest emission control regulations in the U.S.
In addition, the Company is preparing to meet CARB retrofit device verification standards. This will certify a specific level of NOx and particulate reduction which can then be used by local Air Quality Management Districts to award NOx emission trading credits. It will also verify durability for a minimum of 150,000 miles.
A leading management consulting firm has indicated that Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems will eventually lead to 75% to 90% reduction of NOx on vehicles. In a recent government workshop KleenAir was listed as a provider of SCR systems along with Engelhard, Johnson Matthey, and Siemens. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are expected to achieve similar reductions of particulates. The NOxMaster(R) NOx and particulate reduction system is a combination of both, thus positioning the Company among the leaders in emission reduction technology.
KleenAir owns the patented and unique computer controlled ammonia system, the NOxMaster(R), which, when injected into the exhaust stream, interacts with NOx produced during combustion. The result converts environmentally hazardous NOx into harmless nitrogen and water. In addition, the Company's exclusive and unique converters significantly reduce particulates as well as hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO). These pollutants have been shown to be a major contributor to heart and lung disease.
Due to successful test programs conducted in London and elsewhere, KleenAir anticipates achieving such certification and retrofit verification. This will enable the Company to begin selling its systems in California to meet all the standards necessary to sell nationwide. Many ozone non-attainment areas throughout the U.S. are having great difficulty in meeting EPA NOx reduction targets and risk losing very substantial federal funding for road and transportation projects. Some of these areas have substantial funds available to implement NOx reduction strategies and will be the prime initial targets for KleenAir systems.
