Rostra Obstacle Sensing System Offers Vehicle Owners Enhanced Safety

Laurinburg, NC – The Rostra Obstacle Sensing System (ROSS) from Rostra Precision Controls Inc. gives your vehicle an extra measure of safety. The aftermarket system is available for installation in more than 45 applications, including most SUVs, pickup trucks, minivans and passenger vehicles made by 10 different manufacturers.
Operating like an extra set of eyes for drivers, the ROSS detects objects that are not in clear view. The ROSS mounts out of sight behind the vehicle's rear bumper. The system alerts drivers to obstacles up to 12 feet from the rear of the vehicle. It works in the dark at night, and in even the poorest weather conditions like heavy fog, rain or snow. This helps to protect pedestrians and reduce damage to the vehicle from backing into objects that are not in the driver's line of vision.
“Our ROSS kits are the perfect answer for individuals seeking a higher level of safety in their vehicles,” said Thomas Weiss, Rostra's vice president, automotive electronics group. “It's particularly useful for families with small children, or for use in vehicles where it is difficult to see out the rear windows. The system can pay for itself if it prevents even one accident.”
Rostra's ROSS systems use microwave technology to warn drivers when an obstacle is in their path. The driver is alerted through a series of audible beeps that increase in intensity as the object draws closer, and from an in-dash read-out display with green, yellow and red lights.
ROSS has a suggested retail price of $500 installed. It comes with a three year, 36,000-mile warranty. To find a dealer, visit the company's website at www.rostra.com. For DIY'ers, the system easily installs in about an hour using just a drill, pliers and screwdriver.
Rostra Precision Controls, headquartered in Laurinburg, North Carolina, is the leading supplier of vehicle speed control systems, transmission components and vehicle comfort seating systems to the global automotive aftermarket industry. The company also is a leading manufacturer of electronic controls, systems and components for the original equipment automotive industry. It holds ISO 9001 and QS 9000 certifications.

Rostra Releases Enhanced Obstacle Sensing System for Trailers

Laurinburg, NC – Rostra Precision Controls Inc. has released an enhanced version of its Rostra Obstacle Sensing System (ROSS) specifically designed for vehicles that tow trailers up to 40 feet long. The system is suited for all tow-behind trailers, including car, boat and camper trailers, and can be adapted for RVs and commercial vehicles. Custom brackets are available for the system's installation for more than 45 applications.
The system offers drivers improved safety by helping to eliminate blind spots within 12 feet of the rear of the vehicle. This helps protect pedestrians and reduce damage to the vehicle from backing into objects that are not in clear view. The ROSS also performs well in rain, snow, sleet and darkness – where other systems often fail.
The ROSS for tow-behind trailers senses the closest obstacle, regardless of the obstacle's size, said Thomas Weiss, Rostra's vice president, automotive electronics group. “Blind spots exist on every vehicle and obstacles can and do appear suddenly,” Weiss said. “The ROSS offers additional peace of mind for even the most careful drivers.”
The ROSS system uses microwave technology to warn drivers when obstacles are in their path. It alerts the driver through a series of audible beeps that increase in intensity as the object draws closer.
Vehicle owners who already have the system installed on an SUV, truck, camper or other towing vehicle can also operate a ROSS system installed on the towed vehicle or trailer. Rostra offers a convenient adapter that allows the driver to switch either the trailer or tow vehicle system on or off, enabling drivers to alternate between systems.
Available nationally through dealers and automotive equipment distributors, the system costs less than $500 installed and has a three year, 36,000 mile warranty. Professional installation is recommended.
