Chrysler to Run Campaign in Rolling Stone's Annual Car Culture Issue

NEW YORK--Oct. 16, 2001--Wenner Media's Rolling Stone will publish their annual special Car Culture issue, on newsstands October 19, 2001.
It will be devoted to the long-standing relationship between youth, cars and rock and roll, and will include two exclusive six- page ad spreads from Chrysler. The first is a six-page center spread from Chrysler's PT Cruiser and the second is a six-page gatefold from the Dodge brand.
The Dodge gatefold is a visual celebration of the Dodge and its performance heritage through the years, including peace signs, muscle cars and old Rolling Stone covers featuring their new spokesband, Aerosmith. The ad reinforces the youthful, edgy streetsmart attitude of the Dodge line. It's printed on high end paper stock to encourage the Rolling Stone reader to find the number of Dodge logos and go to the Dodge website with their answer and receive a free poster of the ad.
Chrysler is re-energizing the popular Chrysler PT Cruiser's appeal to younger buyers. It has naturally chosen Rolling Stone as the exclusive outlet to launch the new campaign. The Rolling Stone reader is young, forward thinking and influential as a leader among their peers and therefore, Chrysler's target consumer.
"Cars rock America and Detroit is a rocking city that knows cars like no other," said Jeff Bell, Vice President of Marketing Communications for the Chrysler Group. "So this is an organic partnership. Plus, the heritage of the Chrysler Group includes classics like the Dodge Charger, the Dodge Super Bee, the Plymouth Road Runner and Plymouth 'Cuda. Today we are creating new classics like the Dodge Viper, the Jeep Wrangler, the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the all-new Dodge Ram pickup truck. We are proud to be promoting car culture and popular culture with Rolling Stone."
"Chrysler's choice to launch their campaign exclusively in Rolling Stone, demonstrates the vitality and leadership of the magazine within the 18-34 demographic," said Rob Gregory, Publisher of Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone's Car Culture issue, featuring the breakout artist Alicia Keys on the cover, highlights unique car designers, including Brian Nesbitt, designer of Chrysler's PT Cruiser, J Mays, Vice President of Corporate Design at Ford and other young up and comers. It also includes sections on the best new car designs and musicians such as David Crosby, John Mellencamp and Pat Benatar discussing their first cars.
